We all know that water is essential to life. A human being can go for weeks without food, but only three or four days without water.. Our bodies are constantly losing water, and drinking a couple of glasses of water a day is not nearly enough to keep us hydrated. Under extreme conditions, an adult can lose up to 1.5 liters of sweat PER HOUR! If you aren't sufficiently hydrated, your body's ability to regulate your core temperature (through perspiration) is decreased. When you can't sweat, your body temperature can rise to dangerous levels.
As CrossFit athletes, we lose even more water - through excessive perspiration and breathing, increased metabolism, and water retention in our recovering muscles. The recommended daily amount is half of your body weight in ounces, but you really should have more than that if you are working out, especially in a warmer climate. Drink up for your health!
